Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta is being very cautious when it comes to offering Lautaro Martinez a new contract with the club according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The highly rated 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a potential move to Barcelona for a long time now but Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently confirmed that the club are dealing with financial problems and as a result are having to slow down their pursuit of the Argentine.
Lautaro seemed almost destined to join the Blaugrana club but his future could be different now. Inter want to sign him to a new contract but know that they cannot pressure him and need to make their move at the right time.
He currently earns €2.4 million a year at the club and Barcelona offered him €10 million a year, something Inter cannot offer. As per the report, Inter will not offer more than €5 million.
