Despite Inter coach Antonio Conte’s comments that “second place is the first loser”, finishing second instead of fourth could see the Nerazzurri earn around €15 million more, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how the club’s final position will have an impact on future earnings, due to the quotas where you earn more based on your final league finish over time, worth around 5%, and for the last five years, worth around 10%.
There is also the earnings from the Champions League to take into account, as a team’s placement in their own league can see them earn more, descending from 40% more for the winners to 10% more for fourth place.
Taking everything into account, the difference between finishing second and finishing fourth could be around €15 million, the report continues. The Nerazzurri would then be able to invest these funds into the market, giving Conte a stronger squad overall.
