Inter coach Antonio Conte’s decision to return to a 3-5-2 formation in the win over Atalanta yesterday and not use a trequartista was a message that Christian Eriksen is not needed at the club, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how the 51-year-old Italian coach decided not to start the 28-year-old Danish midfielder against Atalanta yesterday evening, instead lining up the squad in a more traditional Conte 3-5-2 system, that was used for the majority of the season. The game was one of the best of the season for the Nerazzurri.
It is no coincidence then, the report continues, that Inter’s best performance hardly featured Eriksen. The former Tottenham midfielder was brought on in the dying minutes of the game and didn’t add anything, failing to particularly impress the former Chelsea coach since signing for the Milanese club in January.
