Romelu Lukaku has become the leader of this Inter side according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport.
The Belgian national team striker has managed to become what Mauro Icardi, who despite being the captain for most of his time with the club, never managed to do.
With his performances this season, it has become absolutely clear why Inter manager Antonio Conte was so adamant that he be signed.
During a meeting with club management last Summer, Conte raised his tone and in the end a sacrifice was made in order to bring Lukaku to the club in what proved to be a club record €65 million deal from Premier League club Manchester United.
In his first season with the club, Lukaku, who is under contract with Inter until 2024, has netted 30 goals and provided five assists in 48 appearances across all competitions to date. He is the first Inter player since Samuel Eto’o in 2010/11 to score at least 30 goals in a single season.
