Inter manager Antonio Conte and club president Steven Zhang will meet with one another after Inter’s Europa League campaign concludes according to a report in today’s prin edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The meeting between Conte and Zhang could take place as early as Saturday, the day after Inter’s Europa League final with Sevilla and there will be no time wasted because next season is right around the corner.
The purpose of the meeting is to decide the future of Conte as the club’s manager after his future was thrown up in the air after his public outburst following the final Serie A match of the season against Atalanta.
Inter must decide whether to continue with Conte for a second year or whether to turn a page, part ways with him and appoint former Juventus manager Max Allegri in his place. Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta however seems optimistic about a future with Conte base on his comments yesterday.
The report goes on to explain that Zhang does not wish to part ways with Conte due to the costs it would take but neither Zhang nor his father, Inter’s owner, will continue to tolerate outbursts from the former Italian national team boss.
In short, Conte certainly cannot accuse the management of being weak again as Inter already had the grounds to dismiss him for just cause after his post-Atalanta outburst.
As for Conte, he feels that following Juventus’ appointment of the inexperienced Andrea Pirlo, next year could be the year to overtake the Bianconeri and win the title. Conte expects to be given more power and wants an important transfer window to close the gap but his wishes are unlikely to be fully fulfilled.
