Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has insisted that he and his teammates must win tonight in the Europa League final but first spoke on the recent lockdown period.

“It was a difficult time for everyone, it wasn’t a good thing but we learned a lot,” he explained in an interview with Chinese broadcaster PPTV Sports, which is owned by Inter’s owners Suning, earlier on today.

“I missed being with my family in the difficult period, which they are now living there in Argentina. I hope that everything is fine and we can go forward.”

The Argentine national team player then went on to speak about Inter president Steven Zhang and tonight’s Europa League final against Sevilla in Cologne, Germany.

“He has a great personality and character,” he continued.

“We are in the final and we are happy because we did a great job, it is not easy to score five goals in the semi final. Now we are preparing for a match against a strong team like Sevilla. We want to win.”

The highly rated 22-year-old proceeded to speak on his strike partner Romelu Lukaku, who he has combined for 54 goals with during the course of the 2019/20 season.

“He is a guy who always trains and plays for the good of the team. We have a wonderful relationship on and off the pitch. For his first goal against Shakhtar he was alone, I gave him the ball and scored. Congratulations to him because he played a great match.”

Lautaro, who has been with Inter since the Summer of 2018 when he joined in a circa €20 million deal from Racing Club, then went on to discuss tonight’s opponents, who are five time winners of the competition.

“For me it’s the same to face one team or the other. We are Inter, we have to win. We have the goal of winning the cup against any team.

“This time we are up against Sevilla, we have to think about them and do the best to bring the cup to Milan. They are a strong opponent, who have won many finals.

“We have to prepare ourselves and get to the game physically and mentally well. They have quality players, who are looking for one-two passes to get to the goal. We have to be smart and move the ball as well as we do in every game.”

He then spoke on the importance of set-pieces, something Inter have benefitted from greatly lately with them having scored many goals from them.

“We work on them day after day and in the match it is fine. We have scored a lot from set-pieces, which in football are very important. We have to stay awake. It’s a final, a special match.”

In conclusion he spoke on his trademark celebration and how it all came about: “I’ve always done the same since I was at Racing, sometimes I forget it though. The emotion you feel after scoring a goal is beautiful.”
