Italy coach Roberto Mancini spoke to gathered reporters at a press conference yesterday, ahead of the Azzurri’s Nations League ties. He discussed his goals as the head coach and the Nerazzurri players in the Italy squad. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInter1908.
“I want to do well at the European Championships and do well at the World Cup. It would be a shame to leave the National team to someone else. It is a more difficult situation than usual. We have to check the physical conditions of the players.”
He touched on how the Nerazzurri players, like Nicolo Barella, featured in the Europa League final against Sevilla less than two weeks ago, showing how little of a rest period they’ve had.
“The Inter players finished one week ago. We will have to take into account the physical tests but the good players, even if not at their best, will always do their part. We have to start well because against Bosnia it will not be an easy game, and then we will evaluate things for the one in Amsterdam.”
Finally, Mancini spoke about AC Milan linked Sandro Tonali, who is waiting to find out his future. The 20-year-old Italian agreed to join Inter back in April but the Nerazzurri failed to close out a deal for him, giving the Rossoneri the opportunity to swoop in and steal the player’s signature. The Nerazzurri have now backed out of the deal.
“We still don’t know when he will come to Coverciano.”
Inter have multiple players in the Azzurri squad for the upcoming two Nations League ties, including 21-year-old defender Alessandro Bastoni, wing-backs Cristiano Biraghi and Danilo D’Ambrosio and midfielders Nicolo Barella, Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini.
