Inter attacker Alexis Sanchez has shared his regrets over moving to Manchester United and has also discussed how his loan move to Inter last Summer came about.
Sanchez endured a nightmare spell at Manchester United following a move from fellow Premier League club Arsenal and his nightmare came to a definitive end when he freed himself from his contract and joined Inter on a permanent basis after spending the 2019/20 season on loan at the Nerazzurri club.
“I had an agreement with Manchester City, but for football matters the agreement was finalised with United,” he explained in an interview with Chilean broadcaster Peloteros TV, which was broadcast earlier on today.
“I remember the first training with the Red Devils, so many things come to mind. After training I went home, I tell my family and my agent if they couldn’t cancel the contract and go back to Arsenal.
“There was something that didn’t quite sit right with me. By now I had signed up and had to stay there. A month went by and I had the same feeling.”
He then stated that he felt he was blamed as there needed to be someone blamed, even though, as he admits, he was not playing all that often.
“At that moment we weren’t united as a team, we weren’t a family and this was reflected on the pitch. And when there was someone to blame, they blamed me. Even when I was playing for a few minutes.
“We weren’t a group, but I always took the blame. Even the reporters were always talking about me, saying things that weren’t true. I wasn’t happy with what was happening.
“I went from being one of the strongest players in the Premier League to not playing five months later. I was going home very sad. But I kept training like a pro.”
He then spoke on his move to Inter on loan in the Summer of 2019 and thanked Manchester United despite things going far from expected for him at Old Trafford.
“The season ended and a new manager arrived. I talked to him and told him that I thought it was necessary for me to leave, to go to Inter.
“He told me there were no problems. Now I am an Inter player and I can only thank United for giving me the opportunity to wear their shirt.
“Things did not go as they should have been due to the environment that existed at that time. The environment was not good and I was not happy. I am sad because I wanted to win and make the United fans happy.”
