Inter’s newest recruit Aleksandar Kolarov has revealed that Antonio Conte being Inter manager played a big part in his decision to join Inter.
The versatile defender joined Inter earlier on this week with him reportedly signing a one year contract with an option to a second year based on a set amount of appearances being made.
“I had already been close to joining Inter a couple of times in the past, after 10 years I managed to do what I wanted,” he began an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, earlier on today.
“It was an easy choice after the call from Inter, I didn’t think twice about it. I already knew several players and I have had very positive first impression. I can’t wait to see the others.”
He proceeded to speak on Inter manager Antonio Conte.
“Conte influenced my decision a lot, when he was in England he won immediately and last year he changed the face of Inter. I hope we can do well and win.”
Former Manchester City man Kolarov then went on to speak about what role he feels he plays best in and his ability from set pieces.
“I feel good as a central defender on the left hand side, I’ve done it in the last three months in Rome and also with Guardiola. Inter always have possession of the ball and I feel good in that role. Am I a set piece specialist? I have a powerful shot that needs a lot of training. When I find the right day I always train.”
Kolarov then went on to reveal that his footballing idol is former Inter player Sinisa Mihajlovic, who played for Inter between 2004 and 2006.
“I’ve always said it since I was a child, fate tells us that maybe I too can end my career at Inter.”
The Serbian national team player then went on to speak about the Milan derby.
“I’ve played a lot of derbies, they are very important games. I don’t know how things are here, I’ve always scored in the derbies and I hope to do it in Milan too.”
In conclusion Kolarov addressed the Inter fans and said: “I have always seen that the fans are very present when possible. We also need them from the outside to do important things.”
