Andrea Ranocchia never completed a move to Genoa due to Inter manager Antonio Conte according to a report from Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
The experienced Italian centre back appeared set to complete a move to the Rossoblu club but it was Conte who put a stop to things and the move then collapsed.
The reason Conte stopped Ranocchia from departing the club was because he was not 100% convinced by Alessandro Bastoni’s performance at the centre of the three man backline in the 4-3 win over Fiorentina on the opening day of the Serie A season for Inter.
Conte decided that he wanted to keep Ranocchia around in order to continue to have him as the back-up option to Stefan de Vrij, who Bastoni stood in for in that particular match.
Conte asked Ranocchia to stay and after he took a few days to consider things he decided to stay and reject Genoa.
