Legendary former Inter manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he was really happy during his time as Inter manager and would not have left the club had he gotten back on the bus with the team after winning the Champions League.

“I was really happy in those two years in the club and with that group of players. We were on the same page, we were like brothers. For fifty years Inter had been chasing the Champions League, I knew that that year I had to win for my boys,” he explained during an episode of newly released Netflix documentary series ‘The Playbook’.

Mourinho then spoke on his move to Real Madrid which came after leading Inter to a historic treble in the 2009/10 season and explained his reasonining for opting to take the reigns at Los Blancos.

“During the competition I received a really important offer from Real Madrid. There I would have to face the biggest challenge for any coach or player, which is to try to beat the strongest team, Barcelona.

“I had to make a decision. Some trains don’t pass twice, so I thought the best thing for to do my career was to accept it. I’m a very emotional man, but I tried to channel that emotion to make that big decision.”

He then went on to discuss how the move to Real Madrid allowed him to pursue the dream that he hoped to achieve during his managerial career.

“We won the Champions League, it was an incredible moment for all of us but since the beginning of my career, my dream has always been to win the title in each of the three most important leagues in Europe.

“I had won the title in England and after winning it in Italy, all I needed was the Spanish title. At the end of the match I didn’t want to go to the locker room, I didn’t want to get on the bus and go back to Milan with my players, if I had I would never have gone to Real Madrid.

“I tried to escape, but I saw one of the players outside the bus, I couldn’t help but stop. I had no words, I don’t remember any words.”

In his two year spell as manager of the Nerazzurri, the Portuguese coach, who is now in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, won 68 of his 108 games in charge and lost just 15 times during his stint in charge. He won a total of five trophies with the club.
