Inter wing back Ashley Young, who has tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering from symptoms yesterday before he took the test, according to a report from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport earlier today.
The report details how the 35-year-old Englishman, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until the end of the season, felt symptoms of a cold yesterday, and so took a test from home without spending the night with his teammates at the club’s training ground.
He had no contact with the rest of the squad, the report continues, and so it is unlikely that his infection will directly affect anyone else in the squad.
Young is the sixth Inter player to test positive for the virus, joining the list of Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Roberto Gagliardini, Radja Nainggolan and Ionut Radu.
The Nerazzurri would only be able to ask for a postponement to next weekend’s derby against AC Milan should at least four more players test positive for COVID-19, as a minimum of 10 is needed.
