Inter are set to welcome Juventus to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the Derby d’Italia in Serie A on Sunday, as coaches Antonio Conte and Andrea Pirlo reunite.

Nerazzurri coach Conte faces his former club, now under the tutelage of Pirlo, and the pair square off on the touchline for the first time.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, Conte and Pirlo have endured a difficult relationship stemming from their shared experiences at Juventus, with the former coaching the latter from 2011 to 2014.

After Pirlo departed AC Milan on a free transfer to join the Bianconeri, Conte was believed to be unconvinced that the midfielder would meet the physical demands of his play as well as his suitability to the team.

Whilst their relationship developed throughout the three seasons they shared in Turin, a show of dissent by Pirlo upon being substituted during Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona in 2013 led to a fine and displeasure from Conte.

The coach was further infuriated by Pirlo mimicking him from the bench during the Bianconeri’s 4-1 victory over Cagliari in the following year, leading to further tension.
