Despite facing the prospect of a touchline ban, Antonio Conte’s dismissal in the goalless draw against Udinese could have a galvanising effect on Inter, Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin claims.

The coach was shown a red card in stoppage time of the Serie A stalemate at the Dacia Arena yesterday by referee Fabio Maresca, before following his dismissal up with a furious tirade against the official in the tunnel after the final whistle.

Conte is facing a touchline ban for the red card and is expected to be unavailable for Inter’s next Serie A match, at home to Benevento on Saturday. However, his actions following the conclusion of the match could see him hit with a much lengthier suspension.

Biasin insisted that whilst the potential absence of Conte may be felt by Inter in the coming weeks, the long-term effects of the coach’s passionate outburst could in fact fire the squad up in their bid for the Scudetto.

Taking to Twitter, Biasin claimed: “What Conte did is obviously wrong but that is exactly what was missing, getting angry like an animal to defend not only himself but Inter. It will cost him a suspension (although this is not confirmed) but paradoxically it is good news.”
