Inter pulled out of a deal to sign Slovenian under-17 international Enej Marsetic after his new contract had already been signed, according to a leading figure at his former club.
Marsetic flew to Milan a fortnight ago to undergo a medical with the Nerazzurri, who were reportedly prepared to pay FC Koper €500,000 for the forward’s services.
Just as the deal seemed certain to go through, however, Marsetic ended up joining Parma instead.
“We are really very happy because Enej agreed a move to Parma,” FC Koper’s academy chief Andrej Poljšak explained in an interview with FCInter1908.it on Sunday.
“Much has already been written about this transfer by the media, although we have not officially confirmed anything about the negotiations.
“What I can say is that we had already signed the contract for Marsetic’s transfer to Inter, but then it was Inter who pulled out.
“In no time, his agent took care of the new offer from Parma, but it is also true that Parma were the club that first took an interest in Enej.”
It is currently unclear what was the exact reason behind Inter pulling out of the move, although it is possible the Nerazzurri were forced to back out due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.
Owners Suning are struggling with a severe lack of liquidity at present due to revenue lost as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also because of new restrictions from the Chinese government which are limiting their ability to invest in Inter.
