Chinese broadcaster PPTV, a part of the conglomerate of Inter owners Suning, have been stripped of the rights to show live Serie A matches.
PPTV did not broadcast Inter’s 2-0 league victory over Fiorentina yesterday, due to increasing outstanding debts owed to Serie A marketing rights holders IMG, according to Calciomercato.com.
With questions over the financial situation at Inter mounting in recent weeks, amplified by the knock on effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, PPTV’s loss of Serie A rights has caused further concern.
IMG sold the rights to broadcast league action in China for €341 million, but payment of this has been delayed by months and action was finally taken this week.
Suning have been in discussions to sell the Inter and London-based equity fund BC Partners recently gained exclusive access to the club’s financial accounts, although no deal has yet been struck.
Inter secured victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday through goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic, with the Nerazzurri putting the off-field uncertainty behind them to move a point clear at the top of the table.
