Inter coach Antonio Conte praised the work of strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez after the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina today.

The duo were both on target, with Martinez hitting a brace, as Inter comprehensively sealed victory over the Rossoneri at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and moved four points clear of them at the top of the table.

It sees Lukaku move onto 23 league goals for the season, whilst Martinez now has 13, though Conte also pointed to their efforts and work rate in defence as well as their attacking prowess.

“They know that everything starts from them because we are a single unit both in attack and defence,” Conte said of his strikers in his post match press conference as reported via FcInterNews.

“Even though they work hard in the defensive phase, it absolutely does not affect them going forward in creating opportunities and scoring goals.

“Today they linked up again to score the goals and I’m happy because in addition to attacking they work hard for the team, and that is what interests me most.

Belgium international Lukaku joined Inter from Premier League club Manchester United in 2019 and has scored 57 goals in 81 appearances.

Martinez, meanwhile, has netted 45 in 117 games for the club since arriving from Argentine outfit Racing Club in 2018.

Conte was then asked about Inter’s chances of winning the Serie A stating that the Nerazzurri should always aim to win titles.

“I think that a team like Inter with the history that it has, has to always have the ambition to win, but then sure only one can end up winning.

“But since last season we have always fought to achieve the maximum results, we finished second in the league, we got to the final of the Europa League.

“This year we are fighting to win but then we know the difficulties but we are also aware that we are improving. The team is improving and the individual quality of the players is improving, which gives us reason to hope.”
