Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is determined to win the Scudetto for the second season running with the Nerazzurri.
Speaking at the Gazzetta Awards, as reported by FCInter1908, the 24-year-old emphasized that he and his teammates are still hungry to win the title and are aiming to defend last season’s crown.
Inter accomplished something very significant last campaign by winning the Scudetto, the first that the club had won in eleven years.
The Nerazzurri had to endure a summer of upheaval which saw Antonio Conte replaced by Simone Inzaghi on the bench and the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi sold with new signings brought in to take over from them.
It was never a foregone conclusion that Inter would be able to make it two in a row and successfully defend the Scudetto, but so far this campaign things look to be going according to plan.
The Nerazzurri are top of the table, one point ahead of city rivals AC Milan after the weekend, and they are ready to fight to stay there through the challenges to come.
On his award, Barella stated that “I’m very happy, I must thank my teammates. Without them I would not have done anything, it is an honour to have won this award.”
“The Italians have had such an incredible year,” he added, “for me it has been wonderful.”
“Going to the World Cup and challenging for it would be wonderful,” he added, though he noted that “There are still two obstacles to overcome in the playoffs. We will do our best to go through.”
On the prospect of a second Scudetto in a row he stated that “We want to defend that Scudetto, we want the second star.”
“This will be a long and hard-fought season, very difficult,” he went on. “But we are Inter and we want to win, that is in the history of this club.”
“Last year was a beautiful, intense and difficult year,” he reflected. “But everything started when we lost in the Europa League, and from then on all our work started.”
“We want the second star,” Barella emphasized in closing.
