Venezia President Duncan Niederauer has reiterated his side’s desire to fulfil the fixture with Inter that is scheduled for Saturday evening, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by FCInternews, the Venetian side released a statement clarifying the situation around the high number of positive Covid-19 tests amongst players and staff at the club.

The club has submitted their 25 player squad list to the Lega for the match at San Siro but five of the players on the list have tested positive at the time it was submitted.

“Starting tonight, after completing the tests yesterday and again this morning, we can say the following as we prepare for tomorrow’s match against Inter. In line with the mandate of the league, we have submitted a list of 25 players for the game by the deadline of noon today.

“Of the 25 players on this list, 5 tested positive at the time we introduced it. They had previously been isolated from the team and obviously will not accompany the team to Milan.

“Those who will go to Milan at this time have all tested negative in the last 24 hours, and tonight they will be tested again as required by the regulation.”

Further tests will be done by the players on the day of the match but Duncan Niederauer is keen to stress that the club has every intention of fielding a team in Milan for the game.

“Unless the results of tonight’s tests say otherwise, it is our intention to play the match against Inter as scheduled. We are a club that respects the rules and the league, and our healthy players are ready to fight and give their best tomorrow night. The team we will field is strong and is ready to represent Venezia FC as the lions we are.”

Inter will be hoping to avoid a second postponement that will cause them scheduling issues as the very busy season progresses.
