Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has come in for criticism in Italian media for his performance in yesterday evening’s Serie A draw with Napoli.
As Italian news outlet L’Interista highlighted, the Dutchman received poor grades for his defensive display across the board in the post-match player ratings among Italian media.
De Vrij had his work cut out for him facing in-form Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, and he looked like he was put off his game by the movement and physicality of the Nigerian.
Osimhen did well to win the Partenopei’s early penalty, but de Vrij also should have done better not to be outsmarted by the striker, and he rarely looked fully comfortable from then on.
The Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport both considered the 30-year-old’s display to be worthy of a 5.5/10 score, but TuttoMercatoWeb, L’Interista, and the Gazzetta dello Sport all gave him 5/10 grades, and the Corriere della Sera went as low as 4.5/10.
