Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that the Nerazzurri had to put a lot of valuable energy into coming back from a goal down against Napoli.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia on Sunday evening, the Nerazzurri legend emphasized how apart from that match, a number of important and taxing recent fixtures will have left the team tired.

The Nerazzurri always knew that the first couple months of 2022 would be difficult and draining ones, with head-to-head clashes with the likes of Lazio, Atalanta, AC Milan, and Napoli all coming within the space of a few weeks.

Not only this, but these Serie A fixtures were interspersed with Coppa Italia matches against Empoli and Roma, and a Supercoppa Italia clash against Juventus.

Now, Inter head into one of their biggest matches of the season, a Champions League round of sixteen first leg against Liverpool, and they do it having already put a lot of themselves into their previous matches.

“Let’s remember that Inter were at one point seven points behind, they spent a lot of energy to come back,” Bergomi said. “Now they have expended a lot more energy – Lazio, Atalanta, Milan, Napoli, the Supercoppa against Juve.”
