Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has finally enjoyed a proper rest during his vacation period, and now he is aiming to make up for disappointments of the season just gone for both club and country.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 25-year-old wants to show his best to push the Nerazzurri further on in both Serie A and the Champions League.
Last campaign was not without its positives for Inter, who won the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italiana and had patches of sparkling form under coach Simone Inzaghi, and for Barella on an individually, with the midfielder hitting double digits for assists.
However, the final impression was one of disappointment as the Nerazzurri missed out on the Scudetto to city rivals AC Milan on the final day of the season.
Furthermore, Barella missed out on both legs of the Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool thanks to a moment of madness that saw him sent off in the final group stage match against Real Madrid and suspended for two matches.
Additionally, failure to qualify for the World Cup with Italy will have come as quite the shock after the high of winning the Euros with the Azzurri just last summer.
Part of the problem for Barella in terms of his displays for club and country always appeared to be fatigue, unsurprising given that he virtually always started for both Inter and the Italian national team.
Now, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a real spell of time off for the first time in over a year, resting up during his holiday at the end of the season, and he is back in preseason with the aim of getting ready to improve on last season.
