Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping that the club are able to get a sign a central defender soon before the season starts.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia after the team’s 2-2 friendly draw with Monaco moments ago, the coach was tight-lipped about specific names but noted that there are talks in progress to try and bring in a defender to bolster his backline for next season.

Inter have already seen one defender leave in the form of Andrea Ranocchia, with Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij also being linked with possible transfers away, and so it is very probable that at least one defender will be signed before the transfer window slams shut.

Torino’s Brazilian central defender Bremer is the name most prominently linked to the Nerazzurri with several media outlets report that a deal is either done or will be done within days.

At any rate the Nerazzurri coach is hoping to see the team land their top target and bring in a defender as soon as possible.

“I have very good directors working to support me, we’ve lost one defender and this is something we’re working to address,” the coach said.

He added that “There’s a major negotiation in progress and I’m pushing every day because a reinforcement in defence could arrive.”

Of the team’s performance in their draw with Monaco, he said that “I’m very satisfied with what I saw, we knew the difficulties we would encounter today.”

“They were in better condition than us physically,” he added, “these matches help us grow.

“We went behind due to two errors but we stayed united despite these difficulties.”

“We had some problems at the back,” the coach noted. “D’Ambrosio had some knocks and sacrificed himself for the team, as did Darmian and Dimarco.”

“At the moment it’s difficult to give tactical assessments,” he concluded, “we’re still only a few days into preseason. Monaco are a strong team, we played to win and we very well could have.”
