Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has said that saying Inter are aiming for the Scudetto is an incentive for the team, according to a report in the Italian media.
Speaking whilst at the closing event of Lo Sport fa Viaggiare, via FCInternews, the Inter CEO talked about the Nerazzurri’s ambitions for the season coming up.
He explained that Inter have to say that they are chasing the Scudetto as it works as an incentive for both the players and everybody else involved with the club.
“The second star? In sport you have to have the courage to dare, it is also up to me as the leader of a group to say what the bar will be.
“To say that we are aiming for the second star is an incentive. The challenge is important for everyone in an abnormal season, with almost two months of forced rest because of the World Cup.
“We will have to manage the athletic part, which will be difficult since so many players are going to the World Cup. I would say it will affect the final outcome.”
He then talked about how it is good that not just Juventus are winning Serie A now that Inter and AC Milan have won the title in recent years.
He also suggested that Inter may have taken their eye off the ball when it came to losing the title to the Rossoneri.
“For sure it will be an exciting championship, in recent years Inter and Milan have won the Scudetto so that there is no longer the hegemony of Juventus. Last year showed that attention to detail makes the difference.
“We came within two points of the Scudetto, which means that the distance was minimal and therefore those aspects neglected last season must be taken care of. A club must take care of the details, such as the staff behind the team going out onto the pitch, from the warehouse workers to the nutritionists.”
Beppe Marotta also talked about how it is good for foreign owners to come to Italy and invest in the league.
“If foreign funds arrive it means that there is a lack of money, there is a great financial difficulty. So it is right that space should be given to foreign owners, because patronage is over. However, I believe that Made in Italy is still of the highest level, as players and as coaches. Carlo Ancelotti, by winning the Champions League again, has demonstrated the quality of Italian coaches.”
