Inter forward Joaquin Correa is hoping that this season he can really kick on and show the kind of form that he did at his best when he was at Lazio.
Speaking to InterTV after the team’s 3-0 Serie A win over Spezia, the 28-year-old outlined his ambitions for the season, his second in a Nerazzurri shirt.
Correa got on the scoresheet to wrap up the three points with Inter’s third goal against Spezia, coming off the bench and collecting the ball from fellow substitute Edin Dzeko before slotting the ball into the bottom corner well.
The Argentine will be pleased that he’s off and running, but he’ll know how important it is to keep going in this direction, as he was not always at his consistent best last season despite a few memorable matches and moments.
Correa wants to show why Inter signed him by being the kind of player he was when he was a decisive influence for Lazio.
“It’s very important to start at my best,” he said, “even though I’m someone who cares more about about the team than individual success. I think I can find the best form I showed in previous seasons, so I can give 100%.”
Of the match against Spezia, he said that “It was a tough game, we approached it the right way. Then we took it home and we’re all happy.”
Correa went on that “I think we have to find what was missing in preseason, we’re focused and determined. We’re focused on improving in the defensive phase, and also the attacking side.”
Of the competition for places in attack between himself, Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, and Edin Dzeko, the Argentine said that “We each have different characteristics, each of us has his own style.”
“The coach has many options,” he added, “but we’re all united to win together, we focus on the team goals which are the most important thing.”
And of the fans at San Siro, Correa said that “There were a lot of people here tonight, it seemed almost like the last day of last season. The support of the fans is very important to us. We need it to achieve our goals.”
