Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will want to get his hands on the Serie A title more than just about anyone this season, having had the misfortune of losing out in each of the past two seasons.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 28-year-old is desperate to prove himself by finally winning the Scudetto after finishing second with two different teams in the past two seasons.
It has not been lost on anyone that Calhanoglu finished as a runner-up in the 2020-21 season with AC Milan to Inter, and then made the cross-city jump to join the Nerazzurri only to be once again pipped to the title by none other than the Rossoneri.
The Turk does not want to be associated with being the man who left the second-placed team to join the champions and saw the roles reversed, and so he would see a title victory as a major victory.
Calhanoglu did not have a bad first season in an Inter shirt by any means despite failure to win the biggest prize in Italian football, as he put a slow start behind him to become an integral player in the Nerazzurri’s engine room.
Now, the 28-year-old will want to build upon his first campaign and help push the Nerazzurri to do one better than they did last time around and snatch the Scudetto crown from his former team the Rossoneri.
