Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has come in for criticism for how he set up his team in yesterday evening’s Serie A loss to Lazio.

The player ratings for the match across Italian media were negative, as highlighted by L’Interista, with the odd decision to start Roberto Gagliardini in midfield and the lack of impact from his second half substitutions singled out as major errors.

Inzaghi made a bold decision by deciding to include Gagliardini in his starting eleven, but the 28-year-old was not able to keep Lazio from winning the midfield battle for long stretches, with the match having given the sense that the Nerazzurri would have had more luck with usual starter Hakan Calhanoglu.

Meanwhile, the coach did try to rectify things with an equally bold triple substitution in the second half, replacing Federico Dimarco, Denzel Dumfries, and Romelu Lukaku with Robin Gosens, Matteo Darmian, and Edin Dzeko.

However, these changes worked about as well as starting Gagliardini did, whilst any other adjustments were too late, and so all of the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, and L’Interista gave Inzaghi a 4.5/10 score, with TuttoMercatoWeb rising barely higher to 5/10.
