Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his relationship with the club directors is a positive and cordial one.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 6-1 victory over Bologna, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach made clear that he and the club’s directors have a positive and open dialogue, but that there is not tension.
Inzaghi was reported to have held a meeting with the Nerazzurri’s directors yesterday, as a response to the team’s loss away to Juventus over the weekend.
This is not the first time that Inter have been in a difficult moment this season, and there have been similar talks between Inzaghi and the club directors in the past as well.
All of this has, at times, led to rumours and speculation about Inzaghi’s future, and whether the club could be considering replacing him.
However, the coach does not feel that this is place, and feels that his relationship with the club remains as strong as ever.
“I was very sorry for Sunday’s defeat,” Inzaghi said.
“Pressure is something I’ve lived with ever since I started playing and then coaching, I have an excellent relationship with the directors,” he continued.
“Both in victories and defeats, everyone, including Marotta, Ausilio, Baccin, Zanetti, and Ferri are great at analyzing things, and communicate very directly and transparently.”
“If they have to tell you something, they tell you clearly,” he added.
Of the win over Bologna, Inzaghi was keen to emphasize that “Tonight we were playing against a team coming off the back of four consecutive wins.”
“We conceded a goal due to a deflection, but the team stayed in the game, scored immediately, and produced a great response.”
“We’ve won five matches of the last six,” he noted, “we’re right there with all the rest of the teams apart from Napoli.”
“We don’t have to look at the table right now, just move forward, and then there’s also the Champions League, but we’re not thinking about that right now.”
“The guys really felt it after our loss to Juventus, which was something that really hurt us,” he said.
“The team looked very focused to me, we conceded an unlucky goal but I was confident that we’d fix everything by the end of the first half.”
And of midfielders Kristjan Asllani, who came off the bench as substitutes during the second half but didn’t start against the Rossoblu, Inzaghi said that “Picking the team is never easy.”
“We have to make choices every day, apart from those two there are seven or eight other players who work well in training every day and give me a difficult decision to make.”
“We played eighteen matches without Lukaku, and fourteen without Brozovic, two players who are very important for us.”
“Still, thanks to everyone else in the team we’ve managed to go on in the Champions League, while we have dropped some points in the league, but we’re not thinking about that right now, we’re just moving on.”
