Inter are aiming to use the rest of the World Cup break to finally get striker Romelu Lukaku in his best possible physical condition.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s medical and training staff have identified 101 kilograms as the ideal target weight for the 29-year-old to reach his best form.

Lukaku’s injury and fitness issues have restricted his form even when he has been able to play over the first part of the season.

This was on display at the World Cup in Qatar, where the 29-year-old made two substitute appearances for Belgium but looked out of rhythm, and at times off the pace.

This will be a familiar sight for Inter fans.

The feeling within the club is that when the thigh injury that Lukaku suffered in August disrupted his season, it also brought the process of getting match rhythm into his legs to a grinding halt.

Accordingly, the club’s medical and training staff have devised a training plan to simultaneously get the Belgian back to top physical condition over the next few weeks, and also build technical and tactical chemistry in attack with his teammates.

The target weight for the striker that has been set by the club is 101 kilograms, in order to have the right balance between strength and not putting too much stress on his body, something Lukaku had been unable to do earlier in the season due to the major disruption with injury.
