Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will have a big decision to make with the fitness of striker Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic after the World Cup.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Zenga noted that with both of the pair involved at the World Cup in Qatar right until the end, the coach will have to coach will have to decide on whether to turn to them immediately against Napoli.
Both Martinez and Brozovic will be at the World Cup right until the end, with Martinez in the final with Argentina whilst Brozovic will have to settle for the third-place playoff with Croatia.
The two players will then have post-tournament vacations, at which point they will return to Inter training.
The Nerazzurri return to action in one of the most important matches of the season right away, in the form of a head-to-head clash with league leaders Napoli in Serie A.
Inzaghi will want to play as strong a team as he can in that match, but as Zenga points out, will also have to factor the packed schedule over the following weeks into his decision as well.
“Napoli had quite a few players who exited the tournament early, and Luciano Spalletti was able to give them ten days off,” Zenga noted.
“He’ll get almost all of them back around the 20th, and he’ll have plenty of time to prepare for the match against Inter at San Siro.”
“What will Simone Inzaghi do with Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic, who return at the end of December?” Zenga posed.
“Will he play them on the 4th, particularly in view of the fact that the team have to play again three days later, and then on top of that the Supercoppa Italiana on the 18th?”
“It’s a problem that having the World Cup played in the middle of the season is creating for clubs,” he noted.
