Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is hoping to secure a long-term future at the Nerazzurri past the end of the current season with his performances over the rest of the campaign.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 28-year-old is targeting not just better form and trophies, but also earning a continued stay at Inter, as 2023 draws nearer.

Just as Lukaku had made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to Inter from Chelsea over the summer, the Belgian is also keen to remain for as long as he can.

Given that the 29-year-old is still only on loan from Chelsea, there is no guarantee that this will actually happen given that the two clubs will have to work out a loan extension agreement.

The fact that Lukaku’s form was heavily disrupted by injuries over the first part of the season means that it is far from clear that this will actually happen.

Accordingly, from the player’s perspective, the portion of the campaign to come after the return from the World Cup break will be a chance not just to show what he can do in the present.

Lukaku is keen to make an impact in Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League so that he can prove himself for next season and beyond.
