Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is hoping that Monza can stay safe in Serie A this season, given his long history with the Lombard club.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Unica TV, via FCInterNews, Marotta made no effort to hide his continued affection for the Brianzoli.
Monza are in Serie A for the first time in their history this season, having been promoted by winning the Serie B playoff final last campaign.
The Brianzoli undertook an ambitious summer transfer window campaign to strengthen and try to make an impact in their very first season of top flight football.
Things have not always been easy for Monza, as they have experienced setbacks as they’ve adjusted to just how tough life in Serie A is.
However, the newly-promoted side have earned themselves a place in midtable after fifteen matches played, and Marotta, who had at one point been the club’s General Manager, wishes them well.
“Monza represents a wonderful period in my career,” the Nerazzurri executive said, “from the end of the 1980s.”
“My photo at the headquarters immortalizes the happy moment that was our victory over Palermo in the Serie C playoffs,” he continued.
“I must say that relations with Adriano Galliani are excellent and it makes me happy to see him managing a club that I have such a fondness for and long connection with.”
“I hope that Monza can reach safety in Serie A, and not just that, have a season that gives everyone around the club great happiness,” he added.
