Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is hoping that he can be fit enough to start for the Nerazzurri in their Serie A clash with Napoli in just over a week.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old has communicated to the club that he would like to be ready to start the match despite his late return from the World Cup.
Given that Martinez won the World Cup in Qatar with Argentina, he will be one of the last or the very last Nerazzurri player to return to training from his vacation.
This has cast major doubt over whether the 25-year-old will be able to adequately prepare for the match against league leaders Napoli on January 4.
For the player’s part, however, Martinez is still keen to fight for a place in the starting eleven in that match, and he has informed the club of this intention.
