The reaction of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez on social media to the team’s frustrating away draw to Sampdoria in Serie A has cemented his reputation as a leader in the Nerazzurri’s squad.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note how the 25-year-old’s message to supporters on Instagram following the match was very well-received.

Martinez wore the captain’s armband for Inter against Sampdoria at the Marassi on Monday evening.

Things did not go according to plan on the pitch, as a subpar performance from the Argentine and from the team as a whole saw them drop two points against a well-organized Blucerchiati team.

However, Martinez appeared to apply the spirit of the armband off the pitch as well.

Whilst few Inter players reacted to the match on social media, perhaps a reflection of some frustration and embarrassment behind the scenes, Martinez chose to address it.

The 25-year-old posted a short message on his Instagram account which stressed moving on by working hard, and thanked the fans for their support.

According to the Gazzetta, this was a sentiment was appreciated by the majority of Nerazzurri supporters, who had wanted to see the players take responsibility and look to the future.

Accordingly, a feeling among supporters that has already been growing this season that Martinez is a leader figure within the team was only further bolstered.
