Former Inter defender Fulvio Collovati has found it a bit odd to see how harsh the fan reaction has been to coach Simone Inzaghi to Monday’s draw against Sampdoria given what he’s achieved with the team overall.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInter1908, the former defender suggested that even if it hasn’t all been smooth sailing this season, the coach’s achievements at the club, including three trophies so far, warrant a more positive reception.

Many Inter fans did not hesitate to criticize Inzaghi as being chiefly responsible for a blunt attacking display that saw the team drop two points away at the Marassi earlier this week.

This included Nerazzurri ultras group the Curva Nord, in which they insisted that Inter played like a “provincial” side and that the coach in particular was guilty of not taking any risks or having a Plan B.

Whilst Collovati understands the frustration, he also feels that the fans should have more perspective to see the positives of what Inzaghi has achieved at the club already.

“It’s strange what’s happening at Inter,” the former defender suggested, “a coach who won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa last season but not the league is still paying for that.”

“The coach isn’t getting the respect from the fans,” he continued.

“The fans don’t forgive him for these ups and downs, and maybe the club will try to take a stand, perhaps sensing a mood within the atmosphere.”

“Now a lot will depend on what the team do in the Champions League, the sense is that the club could change coaches at the end of the season.”
