Inter have moved ahead of Bayern Munich in the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram on a free transfer in the summer.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri have put an offer worth €5 million net per season on the table to the Frenchman, whilst Bayern are turning their attention to other targets.
Thuram has long been a major target for Inter, having looked close to joining in the summer of 2021 before a knee injury meant that the Nerazzurri turned their attention to Joaquin Correa.
However, the fact that the 25-year-old is set to leave on a free transfer in the summer when his deal with Gladbach expires has meant that they have seriously reignited their interest.
Inter would particularly be keen on signing Thuram in the event that Romelu Lukaku’s loan from Chelsea is not extended.
The issue that the Nerazzurri face is that they are far from the only team around Europe who are hoping to capitalize on Thuram’s availability on a free transfer.
However, one of the most formidable competitors for the World Cup runner-up’s signature looks to have receded, as Bayern are more focused on trying to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane or Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.
Meanwhile, La Liga duo Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keen on Thuram, but according to the Gazzetta it is now Inter who lead the way.
