Inter’s shared stadium project with AC Milan has become stuck and there is little movement, despite rumbling on for almost four years.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the two Serie A rivals appear no closer to leaving the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, despite first announcing their intentions to build a new ground in 2019.

The first major setback in the project came in early 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, with the pandemic putting work on hold, but since then there have been major delays due to various public interest reviews.

Meanwhile, with the current stadium potentially facing protection from demolition and thus making it all the more difficult to build a new ground at the site, the project has faced further delays in attempting to find a new location.

Whilst the city council are cautious about offering promises that the new stadium will definitely be built, there remains some optimism that Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala will allow a breakthrough to be found.

However, the clubs remain concerned that the project is yet to take off.
