Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be desperate for striker Edin Dzeko to get back to his best form.
This is highlighted by Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who note that the 36-year-old has failed to find the back of the net in his past eight appearances for the Nerazzurri after having led the team from the front at times earlier on in the season.
During the period of this season prior to the World Cup winter break, Dzeko was a hugely important presence for Inter in attack.
In the absence of the injured Romelu Lukaku, and with the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa not always in form, it was left to the former Roma and Manchester City striker to power the team on with his goals as well as holdup play.
Dzeko put in a Man of the Match display in the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over city rivals AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana that suggested that he would continue to have his say in 2023.
However, in eight starts across all competitions since that match, the Bosnian has failed to find the back of the net once.
This has coincided with a period where the Nerazzurri have dropped points against the likes of Empoli, Sampdoria, and Bologna.
Given that a lack of a clinical edge in front of goal has been one of the main reasons for the team failing to win in these matches, the Gazzetta suggests, Dzeko will be one of the players who Inter and Inzaghi most want to see get back in form.
