Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that this afternoon’s 3-1 Serie A win over Lazio is evidence that the team are now hitting their best form at they key moment in the season.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old stressed that both in terms of the individual players and in terms of the team as a whole, the Nerazzurri are finding their groove again.
Inter needed a late comeback to get the better of a Lazio team who were always going to be a tough ask.
However, up against a Biancocelesti side who have been an extremely tough defensive nut to crack in recent weeks, the Nerazzurri were able to find the breakthrough, making good on long spells of pressure to overturn a 0-1 deficit and take three massive points.
Winning this afternoon was important precisely because for so much of the season Inter have struggled to pick up points on any sort of consistent basis in the league.
However, the Nerazzurri now find themselves level on points with AC Milan and Roma in the fourth position in the table, and have dragged Lazio back to within four points, which could really feel like striking distance for them.
There are six matches to go in the league, whilst there are also the Champions League and the Coppa Italia still there to be fought for.
This run-in is one in which every single match is of absolutely massive consequence for Inter, and so the importance of being at their best during the period is really underlined.
For his part, striker Martinez, who scored two of Inter’s three late goals, feels that that’s exactly the trend of this team heading into the final weeks of the campaign.
“This win means a great deal,” the striker said, “it shows that Inter are right in it, and that we have players with quality and also character.”
“We’ve proved that yet again.”
“This team has a great history, and we have players who are rediscovering our best form at the key moment in the season,” he added. “We’re on track.”
And asked whether the “Lu-La” partnership with Romelu Lukaku is back after the Belgian assisted him for the equalizer against Lazio, Martinez replied that “We’re doing well, but the important thing is that everyone gives their all, whether they start the match or come off the bench.”
