Walter Mazzarri held a press conference which was concluded only moments ago at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti ahead of tomorrow’s Derby della Madonnina at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district. How is Inter approaching this derby? Any doubts regarding the formation? How is Jonathan?

“He is one of the players who’s participation is doubtful, I need to understand his situation better. After the training I will know better, we have to make 3 changes so I need to look into what we can do. I’ll decide in the end.”

Is the difference between with Milan representative of the difference in quality between the two teams?

“All conclusions are drawn at the end, there are still 3 matches left, all very important matches. The league table will take a certain direction and in the end I will say everything that I think about everything.”

Why is Italian football losing its positions?

“The economic aspect affects a lot and all the big teams have been affected, including Inter. It’s a moment of transition, to restart and all of Italian football has affected.”

Will the farewell of the treble winning heroes be a factor when selecting formation?

“You will see my choices tomorrow, I don’t want to give anyone any advantages, Seedorf didnät say anything about his formation either.”

Are you scared of facing Pazzini-Balotelli from the first minute?

“Jag have the utmost respect for Milan but I’m not afraid of anyone. They did well against Roma and the derby will have it’s own problems. They are in good shape and are valued by the group.”

After having watched Juventus – Benfica are you more inclined to switching to a 4-man defence?

“I watch the game, regardless of formations and matches. What counts is how a team plays, the formation can be applicated in several different ways. Next season I will try to get to know other mechanisms of the team, the more weapons we have the better we are off, but not because the formation is the most important thing.”

Would you be ready to coach Balotelli?

“It doesn’t scare me one bit, but I will say what I think. Going back to the formation I remember my Napoli who dominated at home against Chelsea, but away from home we lost. In both those matches we used the same formation but the matches were different. If you understand that your opponent knows you well you have to be good enough to try new solutions which your opponents aren’t expecting, this is the focal point of how I think. Next season I will begin from the start by getting this idea across.”

Which team has the most to lose in this Derby?

“I can’t ask myself that question, I concentrate on the game and I want to prepare my men for a victory. After the game we can evaluate it all.”

Can you confirm the same defense as against Napoli?

“I have talked to Andreolli, I’m glad that he played a great game after having played only a few minutes before. I look at players shape, and the continuity because they who have played before have done so very well. The importing thing is that Andreolli came up to the standard of the others.”

What about Guarin?

“If he plays someone else has to be on the bench. Kovacic is doing well now so it’s up to Guarin to do even better. If it would be the opposite way around, I would have to answer the question ‘why don’t you play Kovacic?’ Alvarez has always played and has now recovered. I watch everything in order to make a choice. No matter who I decide to play someone will be on the bench”.

Are you excited for tomorrow?

“I don’t get effected, but a Derby is always fascinating. The emotions will be different for everyone, but it will always be important”.

What do you think about that Seedorf hasn’t paid his dues to get where he has?

“It’s important that you are a champion, I have had to conquer everyone, and I’m glad that I have done so. He deserves his place with Milan after the carrier he has had.”

What are your opinions about the many draws?

“We have to live with them, many of the draws have come after some unfortunate episodes. For tomorrow we have worked hard and watched Milan because Seedorf has other ideas than Allegri had. We have to try to play our kind of game, which will lead to them playing worse.”

What are Milan’s best quality according to you?

“They have many important players such as Honda, Balotelli, Kakà and Pazzini. They are in a transition and it’s normal that you don’t always get the results with you. Last year they finished third, they had to work much harder this year.”

If you could choose one big European team which would you choose?

“None! I only think about myself and tomorrows game”.

Do you think that one particular event can change the game tomorrow?

“It depends, on both teams and the individual performances, the defence can also make a big difference. I believe that everything counts in a game”.

Is the presence of Moratti a good thing?

“The good results have begun from a long time ago, taking into account everything in managing a group. Moratti’s presence has done the group a world of good, the boys see a united club.”

Is Alvarez ready to be selected again?

“He is doing well, today I will look at him and if nothing happens he will be selected.”

Do you feel that this Inter is ‘your’ Inter?

“If I have somehting to say I will say it after the match. Sometimes we suffer from ‘amnesia’ which isn’t from me, I am not used to this and it’s very hard to understand the motives behind it. It happens in certain parts and this has caused the team to lose a lot fo points. I have to pay attention all the time and hope that in these 3 matches we won’t have any problems. In certain matches the attention level is very high, tomorrow we face another test, everyone is raring to go.”

What do you expect from Nagatomo?

“He is very important, he has many qualities and I hope that tomorrow he won’t make any mistakes [laughs].”
