Michael Oliver will officiate Wednesday’s Champions League curtain-raising fixture between Ajax and Inter Milan.

According to FCInterNews, the San Siro giants boast a positive record across three previous matches officiated by the Englishman.

UEFA has appointed Michael Oliver as the main referee for Inter’s opening-day clash against Ajax.

Indeed, one of the most experienced officials in European football will be in charge of the Amsterdam showdown.

For Inter, it could potentially be a good omen.

Oliver has been Inter’s lucky charm.

Interestingly, he has officiated three of Inter’s matches in the Champions League.

Furthermore, the Italian heavyweights went unbeaten on each occasion, racking up two wins and a draw.

That’s encouraging as new boss Cristian Chivu prepares for his touchline debut in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

Despite winning their last outing under Oliver, it was not an entirely pleasant experience.

Indeed, Inter beat Young Boys in Bern last October.

However, Oliver refused to sanction the home side’s aggressive approach in that match.
