President Thohir responded to questions from the waiting journalists after landing at Milano Malpensa airport this morning. He had the following to say: “Yes, today is a very important day for Zanetti and I’m very happy for him. I’m looking forward to working with him in future at club level. The final decisions will be made at the end of the season.
“Mazzarri will remain. He still has a contract and I want to respect that.”
On criticism of the coach after the derby: “I understand. I also felt unhappy but we need to give him a chance because it’s important that we start the new season with stability so we can grow with sustainability.”
Asked whether he is heading to London to talk about Torres, the president replied: “No, I’m going to London for other meetings.”
