Inter Milan have been handed a double fitness boost, with both Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu targeting a return to group training next week ahead of the Serie A trip to Fiorentina, the final fixture before the international break.
Both players continued individualised pitch work on Friday, but the trajectory is positive, according to Sky, via FCInterNews.
The aim is to reintegrate into full training during the week leading up to the Fiorentina match, potentially making both available for the first time since their latest injury setbacks.
For Lautaro particularly, it is a key gain, but Calhanoglu’s return is also welcome.
Inter Wait On Bastoni Progress As Calhanoglu & Lautaro Target Fiorentina Return
The more immediate concern is Alessandro Bastoni.
The Italy defender has not recovered from the shin knock he sustained in a collision with Adrien Rabiot during Sunday’s derby, and is unlikely to start against Atalanta on Saturday.
His place among the matchday squad is also uncertain, with Chivu set to make a final call in the coming hours.
Should Bastoni miss out, Chivu will be without three key players simultaneously.
Although the prospect of having his captain and his first-choice regista back in contention for Fiorentina offers encouragement for the Scudetto run-in.
