New Inter coach Roberto Mancini took just a single training session to begin work with a back four. During the practice Nagatomo Vidic (alternating with Androlli), Juan Jesus and Dodo took the field. Juan Jesus in fact will be the deputy in the left back area also, pushing Nagatomo over to the right. This brings about the hypothesis that the defence for the derby will either be Nagatomo, Vidic, Ranocchia & Juan Jesus or Nagatomo, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus, Dodo. Could Vidic be the defender at risk? A small backstory is that Galatasaray (With Mancini in charge) were very interested in Vidic during the January mercato, especially after Ranocchia became unavailable late in the window.

Ranocchia got GDS’s highest rating for Italy after yesterday’s match. And most of the game he played in a 4 man defense formation. He was solid both tactically and individually. JJ is becoming a better and better with every match. I would guess Vidic will be given a chance to prove himself, but he’ll be the one benched nevertheless. And I have no problem with that 🙂
Well, Stramma said 2 years ago that Ranno and JJ would be Inter´s central pair for years to come…
I strongly believe that Mancini will give Vidic a good shot at being a starter. Vidic could become much better in a 4-man defense, and it will be easier for him to communicate with Mancini.
On the other hand, JJ may not be as stable in a 4-man setting (same goes for Ranocchia, but he’s the captain…).
We’ll wait and see.
