The General Director of Inter Marco Fassone speaks to the microphones of Mediaset Premium after the Europa League draw in Nyon which puts the Nerazzurri against Celtic Glasgow in the knockout phase of the Europa League:
“All the opponents were strong, it’s an important competition, we do not live in nostalgia, and we look forward trying to do our best.”
Pressure from Milan for third place?
“We feel the pressure of a ranking that we did not think we can achieve at the beginning, now we have to get points and go up the table.”
“The Europa League is one of the roads to get to the Champions League, we have to try to win it. There are five challenging rounds to get to Warsaw, we start from this and do our best to reach there.”
What about the Transfer Market?
“We have to discuss it with the coach, the sporting director and the president. With Mancini we have been clear from the beginning and he has shared the views of the project, we will have to be compatible with the rules of the Financial Fair Play. I spoke with the guys at UEFA in Nyon here, we must be careful not to operate in a way that breaches our portfolio in January.”
European commitment or the League?
“All the teams in the Europa League and the Champions league are facing two competition. For a time now we will not have this problem, we look at the next five games of the season trying to make the most possible points out of them. When we arrive at the beginning of February we will look at the standings and with the coach will take the most appropriate decisions. Our Academy is one of the best in recent years though we have not exploited our resources. Mancini is very attentive to the youngsters, observes the youth well and requests information.”

“Pressure for 3rd place from Milan?”
Seriously? Pressure? We’re currently 7 points off 3rd with 8 teams between us and that spot, and with 3 points from the last 6 games. 3rd spot isn’t even a target for us right now.
I laughed out loud when Fassone said we have to win the EL – as if it’s possible.
Well, Milan have a better strike force than we do even though their defense is shit. But so is ours..
I agree that we can’t win shit in EL with the current team. Fassone must be delusional
Yes, of course… with at least 3 world class reinforcements in january.
Now begin the ROAD TO WARSAW 2015! FORZA INTER
He’s high….
I believe that financial fair play is bullshit. It is not working in favor of any team. Rich teams dont five a fck about some fine that uefa will give them. They will spend anyways to get good players and sell as well. FFP is uefa’s way to keep some specific teams on top by giving fines to other teams. Thohir cannot see this, so we will never get to spend big in order to get quality players. Its really a shame cos our team is legendary and they are destroying it. Forza internazionale
no it works – monaco sold a couple of world class stars this summer because of the rule of “no-olie-money ONLY” and Malaga was banned from Europe because they didn’t followed the rules plus Chity was fined BIG TIME last summer….
Though, you have to consider that FFP constantly feeds the big guys like Real Madrid, Barcelona, United etc. (whose growth is unhindered) and slows down all other clubs that aim for success.
FFP isn’t about “fair” at all, it’s about interest. “fair” would be making transfers about player exchange like in the NBA (for example).
feeds? in what way? UEFA feeds with price-money from the CL/EL but not the rule of FFP! The concept is simple; you cannot spend more than you earn! And the clubs mentioned all earn shit loads on merchandising plus the TV-money in Spain favours Real and Barca in an insane degree!
Well, I might have chosen the wrong word when I said “feeds”, but my point is that FFP isn’t fair at all.
My point is that Real Madrid, Barcelona etc. earn more money than smaller clubs and thus they can spend more than them, to the result of accelerating in growth and leaving the smaller clubs behind.
FFP doesn’t account for the asymmetry in power between clubs, and thus cannot achieve any “fairness”. It’s a lot like neoliberal capitalism – systematically boosts inequality. No wonder it’s reached football as well.
Hmm …sounds like capitalisme vs. communism?
To me this system is just as logic as when the local supermarkedet spends more on buying grosseries and excortic goods from abroad, than the small shop which only has money enough to spend on stoff from the local farmers!
-> You spend what you can afore, nothing less nothing more (like a certain Mr. Moratti! )
Delusional fool
We can’t win the Europa with this squad. We should invest in the team
We have not money and with freaking FFP we can get any more debt. So, I guess we will not win it.
