Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has been speaking about the situation of Inter with just over a week to go until the start of the Serie A season, in an interview for ‘Libero’.
“Mancini is doing everything to make Kovacic feel important but the player must try to do more.”
“The pre season matches matter little, but it serves to take stock of the situation. In these first Inter performances we can see that the team still has troubles.”
“I do think Inter will be ready for the season as they have many good players. Now it’s up to Mancini to get them working together.”

If Kova does the same as he has in the first half of this season he is better off being sold. IMO this is not the same as the Coutino situation he just is a lazy player that disappears too often. I believe Brozovic has more potential. The issue now becomes a problem as Medel will get less opportunity to advance if we give Kova to many chances and he stays the same If i where Mancini i would be starting midfield with medel, Kondogbia and either one of Gnoukouri or brozovic. can you imagine how solid our defence will be with Miranda and Murillo and infront of them Medel?? IMO Sell Kovacic now before he is worth less money.
We believe in you kova! I think he’s best when playing in front of the defence 😀
i disagree. people will only notice his “runs” but fail to remember the countless times he lost the ball and put our defense in trouble. i think gnoukouri and medel are better there. we can’t waste anymore time for him to fit in or trying to accommodate for him.
Hey I think so too but he’s good in that position if medel is next to him. But gnou is better there
it’s bad when inter starts to accommodate for players, he needs to improve.
atm i think gnoukouri is the most consistent midfielder we have. at 18 he can improve alot .
Kovacic have the quality and potential to do more. And he will, if the coach find his best place and stop rotating him in every possible position in midfield and even on the wings. But this kid is only 21 years old and we can’t expect from him to drag whole team. Those who must to give more are so called ‘leaders’ with huge salaries Handanovic, Ranocchia, Guarin, Hernanes, Palacio, Icardi, plus newcomers Miranda and Kondogbia.
I dont like when people use the change of position as an excuse… a good player can play well anywhere and doesnt dissapear… look at zanetti… or cuchu being able to play anywhere on the field… or even leonardo… even slow pirlo was still decently effectivw but slow as an amf…
My problem with kova is he dissapears in matches… and if youre gonna dissapear then you have to have at least a couple game changing moments (like fenomeno robaldo or recoba) but alas he doesnt do that… he can complain all he wants about getting criticized by mancio but the guy isnt showing enough character. Its not enough to have talent… I hope he matures quickly… I mean we signed cuchu at 22 and he was golden even at that age… if we get a huge offer from barca we should cash in on him… something like 40mil plus rakitic… etoo formula
And why you think that Barcelona will want to pay 40 plus Rakitic for according you words, player who dissappear in matches, without character, unmature, who can’t play everywhere on the field? We brought Cambiasso when he was 24 and he wasn’t golden right from the beginning and nor he or Zanetti can’t play in every position on the field! That is not necessary, it’s good when you can cover several positions, but every player have a position, where he’s most effective according his qualities. For young players like Kovacic, is a must to find his best position and to feel the confidence from the coach. You can tell me where was Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo, etc. when they was 20 and why Barcelona was so patient, instead of selling them by the first good offer?
Cuchu was solid when he came, Zanetti too. But you mention Xavi, xavi was solid as a DM from the beginning. As for Iniesta he started further back and was moved forward, Kova is most like Iniesta but all the players mentioned aside from Kova showed more character. I’m not asking him to become Zizou overnight, I’ll accept mistakes… what I hate seeing is his back passes and his shyness. He’ll take on a man just to do nothing with it…
So now Shaqiri is gone it seems like you are startinng with Kova!
And comparing Kova with Cuchu and ElCapitano seems crazy, as those two are rarely legends (not every player can be like them).
And
No LOL, I just think Kova has so much potential and talent that it’s a shame he doesn’t display it. Very diff to Shaq who didn’t have much technical talent. Kova’s only weakness is his mentality and I feel he would have been much stronger had Thohir not forced Cuchu out. Cuchu would have been able to show him how to run the midfield and how to have the mind of a champion.
I’m just disappointed by his shyness that’s all!
I expect Kova to be like them! He’s got the skills just needs the balls!
He’s got a couple of those great games last season (yeah i know, against minnows like Cesena). It seems, as you pointed above, he really lost all his confidence when it came to important matches (and most of not-so-important matches too). Pass every ball to the back (or the flanks), bad positioning, poor judgement , poor defensive output, a couple of successful take-ons that went nowhere as he passes the ball nowhere near his teammates, etc.
I felt the same frustration, i know this is the same guy who danced around every man wreaking havoc at every turn in Napoli 2 years past, and reign supreme over Juve midfielders (albeit in the second half of the match only) last season. We Interista aren’t exactly the most patient tifosi lately, so it’s do or die season for you, young lad Kova.
yep, he has had his moments of brilliance. I just think we should stop blaming everybody but him. He should step up this year or we cash in on him… it’s not like we haven’t been patient and we haven’t tried him in EVERY position in midfield… he’s just so inconsistent and shy.
dead on, dude
WOW This will be the only comment that you have ever made sense with. But If we are going to sell this guy it would be better to do it now worth more and we can focus on working on a winning formula
Barca are not going to sell Rakitic
I know, I know.. it was just an example. (copying the Eto’o deal)
This needs to be the season where he steps up his game and becomes a true star. Potential has to be realised now.
Exactly my thoughts… if we’re gonna get anywhere close to CL spots we’d need to be at our best fielding our best 11 on the pitch. Is Kova part of the best 11?? I don’t think so..i’d quicker pick brozo and gnoukouri ahead of kova..he doesn’t imprint his mark on matches it’s like he’s too timid and we need players with nerves of steel.
Thank you. Time for kova to grow a pair
