I am with you. He is a great talent, but he never materialized at Inter and he was not going to. You can bring Messi today and he will flop at inter, just because the team is not balanced. It was bound to happen today or next year, so at least I am happy that he went to Real Madrid and made good money.

From one side, I understand the sale, I really do. Kovacic didn’t fit well enough in Mancini’s tactics and taking that into account, this amount of money is the best we can get for him. Let’s face it, we all see the potential in him, but don’t see that on the pitch. And I’m not trying to say that it’s his fault, far from it. But Kovacic is one of those young prospects that needs a stable environment / team in order to prosper and fulfill his potential. He doesn’t seem the type of player that will develop while playing under pressure in a team like ours at the moment, so for his own sake, I am kind of glad he is leaving, I don’t want him to go on and become the next failed potential.
But from another perspective, we all know that he will now become the new Inter Pirlo/Seedorf type of transaction and us fans will bite our asses over his transfer in the years to come. But, it is what it is. The only important thing now is that we buy a new attacking midfielder, someone that will play behind the strikers and feed them with balls, because Hernanes is definitely not in form at the moment

You cannot be angry at Mancini because he is one of the few coaches that really promotes young players (take a look at his coaching history). I believe him when he says that their hands were tied because of FFP. The whole problem with Kovacic and Coutinho is that they need to play in a stress-free environment in order to develop properly. Inter is and always was a stressful environment because the expectations are always sky-high, but we rarely have the appropriate team to deliver those expectations. So, because of that, there is huge pressure on youngsters, and not all of them can handle it. And it also comes down to the fact that a different league might simply suit a player better.
Also, I think that Inter was counting on the fact that they will be able to offload most of the undesired players, but that did not happen. And that means one thing – we would have to sell one of the important ones. It’s not fair, but that’s reality.
I don’t understand why we buy young talents if we don’t know how to work with them. Why our president constantly says the same thing about our PROJECT and importance young players when we sell one of the top best young players in Europe the week before start championship. Honestly, probably good that we sell him now instead trying to get another season out of him and having the possibility of his value plummeting. Kovacic is a prospect and a talent but has never really proven and established himself as a top player. Potential means fuck all at the moment if we’re looking at getting a place back in Europe. The money coming from the sale is honestly quite high for a player that has never really established himself.
As for those who are also crying about Shaqiri, he had a few good seasons with Basel, a few shaky seasons as Bayern with his last being quite poor though his international form was superb. Then once he moved to Inter had a few good games and all of a sudden was next to useless as he proved to be tactically inept for Serie A.

I criticized Mancini so many times and I always wrote that he was not the right coach for Inter especially after his failures. But I have had a change of mind today. I am pretty sure Inter is on the right path. I really think Mancini understands Inter and he is doing his best. Having a ‘super star’ is not a guarantee for success. K-dog was and is superior to Imbula. K-dog is also more of a midfielder tha Mancio likes. He told Kova to step it up and it’s been the same for Kova ever since he arrived at the club. With so much resting on this season he preferred to cash in on Kova now since RM came knocking and Benitez is going nuts for Serie A players (naturally since he got his coaching licenses in Italy).
I feel bad for Kova because Benitez will absolutely destroy him like he destroys all young talents. Kova went too soon to RM and he should have rejected the move. He will either step it up and become a legend or flop HARD. Unfortunately the odds are in favor of the latter… or him getting benched for 5 years and wasting himself away.
In the end, we did get a killer fee for Kova, when you look at his games he’s been very very average. Yes he has tremendous potential but how many players with potential have fallen hard. Just look at when Rambert and Zanetti signed for Inter, nobody thought much of Zanetti and everybody thought Rambert would be huge. Rambert flops and nobody remembers him and Zanetti becomes a legend. I feel like this will be the story of Kovacic and Brozovic… Brozo just shows so much more guile and he’s only a year younger.
In the end I don’t think Mancio was set on sending him packing but the opportunity arose and he gave the green light. I don’t think this has to do much with fairplay, Mancio’s teams tend to be strong physical teams and Kova was just too much of a liability in midfield. He was notably weak in the air and didn’t take advantage of his vision to play long passes. All his passes were short, albeit wonderful when he played the ball forward which was unfortunately too seldom.
The sacrifice for FFP is just diplomacy at its best. In the end the right offer came and we let him go. So far with both Shaq and Kova we made a profit.
Let’s trust in Mancio and let him build his vision of a team. He is capable of it.

See these sales put immense pressure on inter, I dont mind sales as long as there are adequate purchases specifically in attack. So he retrieves the ball but does not have a clear vision on how to make the right passes to promote an attacking opportunity. Kovacic has immense Vision but lacked in work rate. A player who has both will give inter something special. Many could disagree with me on the player I am about to mention that is brozovic, he demonstrated glimpses of it when he came on against Milan in the 45 min match. Again I could be wrong as he is still developing and young, will see how it goes. So far inter need wingers asap before getting a midfielder or a left back.

You may as well buy a mannequin from the local department store, plonk it in midfield and hope for the best because that is about as useful as Guarin is. Maybe you only can games via the YouTube highlight packages but the guy is about as consistent as a one armed blind man playing golf on a boat during a storm. Alvarez was like Guarin, could occasionally do things that were excellent but had no vision, no consistency and had no right being near the first team. Coutinho was far from the finished product but had the touch vision and tenacity to be a great. His big problem at Inter was that he was a touch/technique player who thrived moving forward and playing short sharp passes with teammates in a team based on counter attacking and with absolutely no off the ball movement.

Icardi I would argue is there to score goals and despite being a ghost for large portions of the season he still finished top goal scorer. Handanovic I feel for because he had nothing in front of him and on the balance saved us as much as anyone, Medel I dont really like because he slows the transition but he seems to have been told to do that, but yeah I would agree we have too many enigmas instead of players like Palacio two years ago who you know would play decent every game. The problem with Guarin is that he doesnt really fulfill any purpose. People say Kovacic didnt fit into any roll but what is Guarins? Attacking midfielder (loses the ball to much, poor decision making), central midfield (tactically inept, loses track defensively, average pass options), defensive midfield (positionally inept, tactically inept, poor passing from deep). Where do you play him? To be honest I really really wanted him to succeed as he seems to have the talents but mentally he is a flop. His best period at Inter, to my mind was after the fiasco with Icardi and the crowd when he came over to implore them. For maybe four days after that he was incredible. Powerful, focussed, determined. It was like his body and mind were finally one. Then, inevitiably he lost it again and mentally cracked. At least Brozovic, Medel etc seems to know their purpose.

It’s not bullshit if the club needs several other players, like wingers and LB. Even with Kovacic the team was incomplete. There is no winger for playing 4-2-3-1 except Biabiany who is nothing but bench material. Unfortunately Inter had to keep sacrificing the players with reasonable price tag (Shaqiri and Kovacic) to raise funds to improve several other positions in the team. From this point of view selling Kovacic makes perfect sense.
I understand your point but the fact remains, since the treble we have been following this policy, selling good players to buy several average players. Result: A team full of average players who achieve an average league position. You simply cannot do it as it brings down the quality as a whole. We buy in these 25+ years players who have a proven record in Serie A but have no development left and wonder why we dont improve. If we are really serious about improving and staying on a budget we have to get younger players who may not be good enough but who have the potential to be great. We have to give them game time to develop and build off a longer term plan, otherwise we may as well be hamsters in a treadmill. If we buy three average 25-29 year olds I will be ropeable.

But we still have to wait and see if the Inter of Thohir is gonna be just like Moratti’s or not. After the treble we never had a established coach, but this time we have. It’s not fair to make harsh judgments before we even let Mancini to do his work properly. We still don’t know who is gonna arrive and who is gonna leave after Kova’s departure. I think you should not. I prefer the Inter of today than the Inter of Moratti. I have been solid rock with Inter from 1993. What Moratti did for so many years did nothing except one solitary year with Mou. The rest were mistakes and being robbed. by Rubentus.
I’ve been Interisti since 1998. The way the management operate the club today is a little bit better (in terms of world-wide branding and financial handling) rather than Moratti. But the way they treat player, especially young players is still the same with Moratti’s era. It’s hard to imagine that Inter will build a great squad from their academy product, like Barca. Why?! They dont have patience and respect to evaluate the player qualities.
no mate, the fans don’t have the patience. we used to do that thing you mentioned. gave chances. like bonucci, or pirlo, one slip of a mistake and the fans gave them cold shoulder, and the coach is forced to win at all cost, and that makes the coach, any one of them (including mou) are afraid of placing youngsters IF they are not senior ready. but the thing about youngster is..only 5% in this world are senior ready, the rest need times to become a good senior team member…

Nope you’re wrong it’s not the fans who’s not patient enough, it’s the serie-a environment itself who’s not friendly to young inexperienced players.. Even genius like pirlo needs some years to be forged.. Young players are rarer in serie-a compared to epl and la liga
kmon, Moratti didn’t just have one good year. SO many ingrates with regard to the Moratti Family. Fun trivia, Moratti family were in charge for all 3 of our triumps in Champs league (and I’m not counting the UEFA cup when champs league was a much smaller competitions)
The guy spent billions on the team, yes he was impatient and wanted results but the guy was an INterista through and through and he used to go to games as a kid. Meanwhile Thohir is a businessman, not an interista. For Thohir he’s investing in a brand with an eye on the balance sheet. Make no mistake Thohir is not in the business to take a loss, remember for him it’s just business and not love. Just look at him not intervening for the sale of Guaro until we stood up.
Thohir runs it like a corportation. Kovacic was simply a commodity that was in demand, he basically cashed out to insure we don’t lose Icardi who will be even more profitable.

Yeah Thorir does appear to be unwilling to do what is needed to get the club moving. I wonder how much of it has got to do with the new back office staff he has bought in as well. The squad we have right not looks way way off Juventus and Roma, and even some distance behind Lazio, Milan and even Fiorentina and Napoli.

Well it was Massimo’s fault that we’re going bankrupt and almost collapsed, because his stupid way of running Inter with his blind love.. Well i don’t say Thohir is a perfect lifesaver, but when someone saves your nearly bankrupt club how can you not thank him? It’s easy to choose between the two, Massimo who brings the treble but in the same way destroying the club, or Thohir who’s saving the sinking ship? Well i sided with the lifesaver.. Hopefully he runs the club better than Massimo..
