In the week leading up to Sunday night’s Milan Derby, speculation has started on what formations could take to the pitch.
According to reports from Sport Mediaset, Inter coach Roberto Mancini intends to propose the 4-3-3 formation with the new attacking trident of Stevan Jovetic, Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic.
Rodrigo Palacio and new signing from Roma, Adem Ljajic would therefore start on the bench.

Just put Palacio on the bench and start with one of Ljajic or Perisic and don’t use Melo. This garbage..
If medel a great passer then
Pirlo is a god
pirlo and medel si a different type of player my friend..^^.. pirlo start his carrer as trequartista and letter develope as regista, that’s why he has a great quality in attack and his vision is world class. medel in the other hand is a pure defensive midfield, his strong point is to destroy an opponent midfield.. medel main job is to do the dirty work for the team, just like gattuso, makelele, or edgar david..
I was commenting on other guys who claim that Medel is a “great ” passer he is a very good D midfielder that’s it no vision or creativity that’s all
owh okay.. btw, medel doesn’t need creativity at all.. because he is a pure DM.. as long as he doesn’t give the ball away easily or make to many wrong pass than he is a good passer in his position.. the one who need vision and creativity in front of deffence is a regista just like pirlo.. so the definition of great pass could be different depend on your role in the game.. just my opinion my friend.. ^^
Gas puollll.. hajar milan…
not that supricing – I think we clearly will play a kind of Christmas tree-formation this year 4-3-2-1!
its sounds quite funny dude for us indonesian,,most of us just dont get the jokes.. 😀
what so funny about that name dude!? can you explaint the joke for us?^^
yes. what does PAIJO mean?
Paijo is a name.. Usually common name for rural / village people from java..
paijo word came from javanese language and the meaning is young man..idk how to explain it to you guys..but for us indonesian this word pronounce is funny..^^
wtf i don’t know why i decided to search it. i ended up on the word muncrat. wtf never searching about foreign words again
and you got a new word to understand… hahahaha..
you don’t want to search that word. i promise you.
shit!!!! i search muncrat, and i end up with so many porn related site.. damn.. it must be hell of word.. hahahaha
i have worst luck. i watch funny youtube vidoes and end up on the weirdest vids ever. :p
i used google translate this time, muncrat is squirt.. hahaha.. now i know why so many porn site appear when you search it on google..
lol.. 😀
so paijo means young guy!? eventhough i still don’t understand why it’s funny, but thank you for your kind explanation.^^
don’t forget about trio PAIJO (PAlacio, Icardi, JOvetic) LOL
One again I see ppl hating on Medel and once again they point out he’s not a good passer. That’s not his role, he is a pure CDM. He makes simple passes and is great at defending. He has made countless crucial tackles, which is what he has to primarily do… He has been great for us, watch the tape and look at the stats and stop with the hate.
We can’t have all 11 players on the field attack, some people need to defend. Everyone wants our fullbacks and MF to be more attacking players, who the hell is going to defend?
good point..^^
but not sure we need him now as much as we did last season…… maybe he is now surplus.
not realy.. it’s depend on what tactic mancini want to apply though.. if we want to parking the bus, we surely need medel, and if we want to play with 4-3-3, we will need medel too.. so medel is not a surplus.. mancini love his work rate for inter.. so i think he will have his playing time too..
but how much is that happening. i don’t think mancini will play a 4-3-3 past the 5th game. the uses of medel are low. atm losing medel wouldn’t sound crazy like it would do last season. it’s very specific roles that he can be used at.
yes even if medel is not in our starting 11. he’s still an important rotation player for us.. ^^…
maybe we can cash on him in January. gnoukouri is very impressive so far.
gnou is to young in my opinion, we will play him in the game that less important..^^
i expect 6-7 players leaving in the junuary window. i don’t thing thohir is content with soo many high-waged unused players
i expect our fullback should be the priority.. we have to many fullback at the moment.. we need to sell some of them.. and one of rano, vidic or juan should go to..
nagatomo , berni, vidic and palacio’ contracts all expire in june. while we will have to pay 8m for dodo to roma. which will probably be used as a winger. don’t think mancini is convinced with either santon or danilo. montoya is going back to spain…..
to be honest mancini didn’t look convince with all of our fullback.. that’s why he even play juan in fullback.. now we have telles, but still not sure if he can get starting line up position..
Don’t worry about the Medel critics. The don’t know how to appreciate this type of player. Whoever calls him Gargano 2.0 is clueless.
IMO, I’d rather start with Ljajic, Jovetic, and Icardi as trident for Derby. Ljajic is more familiar with Serie-A. Perisic can be our supersub and give different approaches for second half
I think mancini will start with more familiar 4-3-1-2 as usuall before makes a change at second half.. We are all know him..
My brothers here arguing medel and melo. For me it doesn’t matter who will be starter as long as I see one of them will isolated midfiield and bring more guarantee for MM to safely defense and Kdog to free support forwards. And I will acknowledge them as next Viera or Motta part 2.
http://images.footalist.com/6913-Inter-Milan-09-07-2015-DrippyLippy.jpg?0,0784418
I think they will run with the 4-3-3 to start the match with a more defensive shape, but if they fall behind expect them to open up the game by inserting the 4-2-3-1. Or if they are up by only 1 going into the 75th Min, expect them to transform into a 4-2-1-3, with Freddy Guarin coming in for Gary Medel and siting in between the 2 Holding Midfielders and the Forward Line
Good for first half,I like it. But I will change Jojo and Perisic position. So do Miranda and Murillo position. Every team now scared of our new tridente Perisic – Icardi – Jojo. Everyone of them can scored goals from many position. Forza Inter..!!!
Miranda and Murillo should be switched but Perisic will play the left flank 100%
looks gooooddd… but it’s to deep formation, i wanna play guarin first than melo, in minute 65(2ndhalf) time to melo destroyed milan with physical role.. hahaha
I think it’s a good formation to play against Milan. Their best attribute is their attack so he can use 3 midfielders to capitalise on their shitty midfield and stop their strikers from getting any chances. Then Melo and kondo can launch some attacks and we shouldn’t need more than 3 attackers of that quality to tear their defense apart.
guys lets come up with an abbreviation for our attack, combination of jovetic, icardi and perisic, i came up with PMS ( perisic, mauro, stevan)
And with felipe melo, medel and murillo there will be a lot of blood behind PMS – so yeah it’s accurate
hahahahahahhaha XD
LOOOOOL
How about SIP tridente( Stevan – Icardi – Perisic)..: D
I think I like 4-3-3 better for this match – there’s a certain defensive stability to it
Just win the derby, I don´t care how
the performance is very important. i want to feel satisfied after the game. can’t say i did when we beat carpi.
4-2-3-1 is the best fit for our players.
maybe it’s a little premature to use it now. but ultimately i think mancini well use it till the end of the season.
http://images.footalist.com/5835-inter-2015-16-jackaboo.jpg
Compare this team with last season. What a progess! Totally different. It indicates how bad our squad was.
RB for Santon, medel on the starting line-up melo on bench, same with ljajic, his start from bench..
melo is better than medel in every facet of the game. passing, dribbling, defensively not sure how people want medel ahead of melo. loool
Did you watch last season’s games? Medel is superior in like every aspect.
please explain more. i’m intrigued.
First, take a look at passing statistics of Melo and Medel. On whoscored you can see detailed statistics. Then, have in mind that Medel plays central defender also, and he is much better in defending and covering central backs. He is younger, faster, and has incredible work rate. Dribbling is not something you want you defensive midfielder to do.
The passing stats are good and most of them were forward (prior to contrary belief) but most of them were simple passes that didn’t really open up space for the attack nor were key in any contributing to attacking play maybe just two or three of them were
it’s verrry misleading imo. people use that stat in wrong ways.
in terms of defense it think both melo and medel are on par but in terms of passing….. it’s a huge difference
Most of the time yes – but when we want to play a defensive game, medel would be my first pick
Medel is the best player in the whole league for his job.
his job is to defend, and defend he does, and does well.
Even with last season’s mediocre back four the shear presence of Medel stabilized our defense.
but now he will not be used as much. melo is a better fit in front of miranda and murillo. maybe if we want to park the buss.
You need to stop looking at who is better between Felipe Melo and Gary Medel and start looking at it as how there strengths play off each other. Mancini clearly wants to play with 3 midfielders and Felipe Melo, Gary Medel and Geoffrey Kondogbia are all good defensive midfielders but have limited strength going forward. Each of there strength’s go togather really well though. Medel is the hardworking box to box, Kondogbia is the attacking box to box and Melo is the Holding Midfielder that can distribute from deep. They all play 2gather nice
i don’t think “Mancini clearly wants to play with 3 midfielders”
how can you say that? he sold Kovacic and hernanes because they didnt fit, He has never like pure CAM! He wants wings and defensive midfielders. You dont buy Felipe Melo on deadline day when you already have Medel unless you plan on playing them togather or backing each other up and even if backing up is the plan, then Fredy Guarin is going to take that spot not Ljajia. If he starts with a formation of Perisic,Jovetic,Ljajia and Icardi then what happens when one of them gets hurt god forbid or isnt match fit? Who comes off the bench? Babs hasnt played in a year and Palacio is a pure ST and thats it in this stage. If Mancini wanted to play with Jovetic in the middle and 2 wings next to him then he would have had to get atleast another wing for the bench but instead he wanted Melo…. What does that tell you?
Yep. But the question is do we need medel against smaller teams that park the bus from the beginning? That’s most games and melo is key in these games
Edit* should be key***
Against smaller teams it doesn’t matter if we play 4-1-5 because they’ll still park the bus and do nothing productive.
I trust Murillo and Miranda to handle defending against Atalanta and Carpi and other promoted teams.
Dude, you just can’t compare Melo is good in passing just in one game and that’s again Lecco. Let just wait until official announcement starting line up.
i’ve been watching him for the past few years in turkey.
have you?
even then what melo did in that one game, medel couldn’t do in a full season!!
I’m sorry, but that was against a seria god knows what team. No need to disrespect medel who has been saving our asses in defence last season.
Melo has been great in turkey. He had a good first match with inter but he has to prove himself even more.
Oh and change your icon to melo with inter shirt please 🙂
ur opinion will change when you see melo play this season.
been playing this type of game for the past 4 years in turkey. and have consitantly performed in the champions league against really gooood teams.
oh yes. thanks for reminding me.
My opinion is that melo has great capabilities and fans in turkey love him to death for what he has done for them but I’ll wait to see what he does with us until I judge him completely
noted, maybe i’ve accepted and made my opinion on him alot earlier than others due to watching him. which irked some people. i think he brings an aspect we’ve been missing. amala.
new picture.
Nice pic 🙂
he was very good in fiorentina.. and very bad with rube.. but i hope he can found his performance, just like when he was in fiorentina..
Dude, just a simple logic. If Melo that good then why no big serie A team want to sign him? Plus why we sign him in last minute. If he’s really important I’m surely he will be signing ASAP just like Kondogbia, Jojo, Miranda and Murilio.
It doesn’t work like that lol – we wanted him from the beginning of the transfer market. If that’s the case I’ve seen no offer for medel, that doesn’t mean medel is bad.
some people have a personal vendetta against melo. and some have opened their mind a bit and accepted that he isn’t as bad as you thought. cheers.
Funny how people act as if he isn’t an upgrade for what we had last year XD people forget we had kuzmanovic *shudder*
lol.. i forget we have lord kuzma before…XD…
I think you wrong misinterpreting my comment. Melo haven’t play in serie A for so long. So I don’t know is he’s good in serie A. While Medel already proof it.
Oh. I already said I will judge him after he plays somewhere here in the comment section 🙂
lol.
we agree to disagree.
good to see inter shirt in your picture..^^
yes lol.
He is not supposed to create chances or take risks, he is not a regista.
Hey I’ll say it myself – if we want a more defensive team, medel is my first choice -that’s why we will rotate medel and melo a lot
who said melo is. you have this weird thinking that a player can only either be a good passer or be good defensively.
No, I don’t. 🙂 I think that Medel is great passer, but his job is not to create chances. Also, I don’t think that Melo is bad player and I don’t hate him, i just think that Medel is much better.
“I think that Medel is great passer” hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh end of discussion.
91.8% pass succession last season, highest in Calcio. End of discussion.
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
makes him a good passer?!!! loooooool
no need to provoke people in our conversation my friend.. everybody has their opinion.. as long that we don’t bashing our team unfairly it’s okay to me.. bojan has his point and you has your point.. in the end it’s what mancini want that matter.. because he is the one that made the decision about the starting line up..^^
🙂 he just got under my nerve with that comment. forza inter.
No, it makes him a good chef.
lol
Funny he said Melo better than Medel. I have no idea how he can compare Medel with Melo
what do you mean? it’s ridiculous how much hate melo gets. have you seen him play in the last 3 years at all?. have you him vs lecce? and you people still say medel is better. it’s blasphemes
mello has better long pass though, his passing skill is a pleasure to watch.. just my oppinion..
at the lecce game you could see that he really unlocked their midfield and defense with his passes. i just think this is an aspect of his game that can not be ignored it’s truly a pleasure to watch imo. can’t see medel doing that imo.
I think medel will be used to park the bus in most games now
Melo couldn’t even break Lecco’s defense. What are you talking about? Model is a champion, 5 years younger, more running, better defending… He has the best pass completion in the whole serie A last season.
lol. again with the “pass completion” you’d expect him to get his passes right when all he does is do simple ones.
i can show you video prove that he did but i’m sure you still wont change your mind since it seems ur a medel fan.
You are wrong bro. I’m an Inter fan, that means I take into consideration, a player’s work rate, age, and efficiency.
what about his passing, chance creating and offensive contribution?!!
Macini is planning to play aggressive and possible with 4 strikers, so he mostly wants a dominant defensive mid to cover the midfield on the counter attacks
You got there 4 players not contributing to defense at all, Telles who is not Inter material and weak defensively, and Melo in front of Medel?
yes. melo is better than medel in every way. and he passes are really impressive.
not sure what do you mean by the first sentence. this is a fairly stranded 4-2-3-1.
In 4-2-3-1 you usually have 3 attacking midfielders behind striker, and they still have defensive duties. In your formation you just have 4 strikers that can’t contribute much in defense, plus offensive full back. We would be destroyed from counter attacks.
I think this will most likely be utilised in the 70th minute when we we’re playing one of those provincial teams who’s parked the bus and it’s still 0-0??
You’re 100% correct – I hope we find the chemistry between the players for it
yes. all of melo, jovetic, perisic and kondogbia played 4-2-3-1 last season. we just didn’t get enough time to fully implement it and find a good balance.
I love this yugoslavia team
Argentine era had ovet. Now is balkan new era. Lol
Thats to attack minded to open the game. Martin Montoya and Alex Telles arnt fit enough yet to start, so i expect Mancini will go with Davide Santon and Juan Jesus for atleast one more week. Also i think Mancini wants Geoffrey Kondogbia to get more into the attack as the game goes on the same way YaYa Toure use too, which means you will probable see cover on both sides of him with Gary Medel or Freddy Guarin in a Box to Box role and Felipe Melo behind them playing as a holding midfielder. Stevan Jovetic, Ivan Perisic and Mauro Icardi are the big 3 upfront anyway you put it, which leaves Rodrigo Palacio and Adem Ljaja as protection off the bench. Think about it….. Tactically it makes the most sense with the way Mancini has built this team, its actually really smart when you break it down
Could you clarify what formation/players you mean? As it seems one too many players??
I mean the 4-3-3. Handanovic,Santon,Murillo,Miranda,Jaun,Melo,Medel,Kondogbia,Jovetic,Perisic,Icardi…Thats the best starting formation for the Milan Derby. Once Montoya and Telles get fit and worked into the defense then they will replace Santon and Juan on the Wing Backs, Overlaping with the Wings cuting Inside to create. But untill Montoya and Telles get fit, this is the formation i think Mancini wants to use
Apologies! I saw your diagram further down this extremely long thread which clarified it lol! Yeah I agree this is the most likely formation. Do you really think Montoya’s ever gonna get in the team though?
will not suite Melo or Kondog very much; both players like to, and are inquired by the coach, to attack as well – remember Mancini has asked Kondogbia to go forward and score at least 10 goals this year + mancini wants to make him the new box-to-box monster like he did with Yaya T -SO, the best system would be to play 4-3-3 with a sweaper (medel) playing behind Melo and Kondog (our two box-to-box players!) Guarin and Brosso also plays best in these positions!
both kondogbia and melo played 4-2-3-1 last season. and the same role yaya toure played under mancini.
