Esteban Cambiasso spoke to SkySport regarding Mateo Kovacic’s time at Inter and his future: “I must be sincere, it’s still not clear in what position he can give more. He arrived to Inter with great potential that he still has, but after sometimes we could see the results. After 2-3 seasons I think these qualities must be showed. It’s not clear his role even because to be a director he should have less ball in his feet. And also in this case he should have a player near like Gattuso and Ambrosini when they played with Pirlo”.

in 2 or 3 years he will barely learn his position on the field that’s sad, we got good money for him, oh boy I was so wrong to think he was better than modric , he cant even polish modric boots
the problem with him was, if he want to be a regista, he should distribute the ball quickly, and not stopping the flow of the game by drible the ball in front of our defensif line.. but playing him as a number 10 was a headache too, because most of the time he’s disapear.. as winger even worst.. he should watch pirlo game and learm how to distribute the ball and control the pace of the game.
Stramacconi was the one who new how to use him – no strict position.
not really.. how many games in a row that he can play or even perform well.. let me show you something interesting about kova in stramaccioni era, 2012-2013 kova only played 18 times, made no goal, and no assist created.. let’s be honest, what we see in that 18 times apps was just some flashy move that indicated that the boy have a good talent, nothing more than that.. just overhyped and overated by our fans..
If I recalled correctly, his second match with Inter (or his debut in European League) was pretty good. I was surprised to see our new no.10 was a deep playmaker-type. And I think he made a superb assist in that match. For the rest of the season, as we know, we were struck by injury storm and I think this affected our performance a lot
that’s the match that make we(including me) think that this boy could be something in the future.. but, after following his closely and analized the way he move the ball when playing a regista role, i realize he had a big flaw as a regista. a regista should know when and where to pass even before he recieved the ball. and that’s is kova big weakness in my oppinion. i hope he proof me wrong. let him joint rube or bbilan.
he already indicated many times that he wanted to be a central midfielder, but Mazzarri ploted him to play as trequartista, even Mancio wanted to transform him as a new David Silva and played him as left winger. He found the right moment and the right mentor under Stramaccioni.
you know why mancini and mazzari don’t let him played as a CM!? because this boy always make the drible in font of our defense, and that’s dangerous as hell(and don’t forget who are our CB duos). if he really like to drible, let him do it up front(that’s the logical thinking of the coach). with strama, actualy he rarely perform well too. but because he’s young, we always make an excuse for him..
I see your point, but in my opinion, when he played as trequartista and winger, he didn’t dribble a lot. I’m always curious, but I think Kovacic’s best period always happened in the end of season (few last giornatas). Under Mazzarri, we crushed Lazio in 2013/3014’s last match. Under Mancio, we crushed Empoli in 2014/2015’s last match. In those matches, he played brilliantly and provided some assists. And the most important point from those 2 matches is he played as a CM (where Mancio and Mazzarri put Hernanes as AM).
that’s the problem when played upfront, he barely used his drible. but when played as a cm, he made the drible too many times in the match that make our defense easy to get counter by the opponent. and another problem with him was he’s very inconsistent.. actually in that game, not just kova played well, but everybody played the game of their life.. all in all, i never regret to sell him to real madrid. because we got good money and we can’t wait for him to mature.. if my prediction was right, kova will matured at the age of 25-27. and that’s matured as a player, not even guaranty that he will become a big thing, or just another balotelli..
That’s why there is defensive midfielder, who’s job is to protect his back and covering mistakes. Players with Kovacic’s qualities are very valuable, because are very rare and with his dribbling, speeding up the game and with trough balls can unlock any defense
his dribling was stopping the flow of the game sometimes.. i’m not saying his dribling are bad.. but if you make a dribling attemp in front of the CB, then you’re asking for trouble. especially if your CB was rano and juan. a cm need to know when to drible and when to make a simple pass.. the greatest cm in the world not known for their dribling ability but for their passing ability decision making(when to pass and when to hold the ball). kova had the potential, but he really have the mountain to climb.
Nobody saying that he’s complete midfielder, but he have the potential to be great midfielder. His qualities reminds me of Iniesta, he’s CM and often uses his dribbling to unlock the game. He is late bloomer, not only because of the fierce competition in Barcelona, but because as you said for that position you need better decision making and confidence and that can come with experience. Kovacic needs trust, playing more regularly, making mistakes and learning from them. Buy the way Pirlo was late bloomer too, with us he was struggling finding his position and space and after he left we all know what happened! Similar case was with Coutinho and it’s time for us to start learning from our mistakes!
actualy iniesta was not a late bloomer.. and iniesta rarely drible in front of their own defensive line, when he did it, he did it on the wing or upfront.. and iniesta is a deligent player, that’s what kova rarely shown in his playing style.. pirlo actualy was an AM/SS when he’s young.. but then ancelotti, seen his atribute are more usefull as a deep lying playmaker. actualy if pirlo stay with us, he will become nothing. so i’m glad he leave us. same case with coutinho, he need more space in his playing style, and that’s not gonna happen in italy. all in all, kova is not a player that will bloom with us.. all in all i don’t see kova future with us, whoever the coach.. maybe rube or bbilan can get his best out of him, who knows.. but honestly i really want him to play for rube or bbilan to proof me wrong.. i was skeptical about balotelli, and he done nothing to proof me wrong. i hope kova will be different.
