Inter captain Mauro Icardi tops Real Madrid’s January transfer wishlist according to a report from Spanish news outlet Marca.

Despite a strong desire to make the Argentine part of their side, Los Blancos will find it difficult to convince the 24-year-old forward to move on from Inter where he has continually stressed he wishes to spend a long time with the club.

The former Sampdoria man has been in fine form this term as Inter remain unbeaten after 14 games and just two points off from being at the Serie A summit. The Argentine international has scored 15 goals – which include a memorable hat trick in the Milan derby back in October – , enough to have him sit joint top of the Serie A scoring charts at this stage of the season.

Real Madrid are understood to also have identified Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Krasnodar’s Fedor Smolov as backups to Icardi.
